We all say we want the truth—but only the parts we can handle.
We want honesty, but not if it shakes the ground beneath us.
We crave reality, but only if it aligns with what we wish to believe.
We ask for the truth, but not if it forces us to change.
So, instead, we settle for half-truths—the kind that feel safe, the kind that allow us to keep believing what we want to be true.
The Comfort of Half-Truths
We tell ourselves:
- They love us, even when their actions prove otherwise.
- We are happy, even when we feel empty inside.
- Everything is fine, even when we know deep down that it isn’t.
- We trust words over actions.
- We choose illusions over reality.
- We cling to comfort instead of truth.
Because sometimes, the truth is too painful to face.
The Danger of Half-Truths
But half-truths are not harmless. They give just enough light to keep us from seeing the whole darkness.
- They keep us hoping for something that will never be.
- They make us stay in places we should have left.
- They make us fight for things that were already gone.
- A full lie can break us, but at least it ends the illusion.
- A half-truth lingers, keeping us trapped between reality and what we wish it to be.
- It lets us believe we have something when, in truth, we have nothing at all.
The Hardest Truth of All
We fear the truth because it demands change.
But no matter how long we avoid it, the truth always wins.
And in the end, a half-truth is more devastating than a full lie.
